Has Stephon Marbury Gone Crazy?
Many know, that Stephon Marbury has been making a 24/7 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week), internet show of his life. So far, on his self-produced show, people have seen him dance, cry, eat vaseline, etc. People are writing him off quickly as insane, troubled, internally damaged, crying for help, and more.
While Marbury has definitely crossed the line on some occasions, I do believe that many are taking him too seriously. I think he’s just trying to entertain the masses, and bold moves always generate a buzz. Take his vaseline incident, for example, where he actually ingested some of the stuff. He wasn’t doing this just because he’s lost it, but he was doing this as others do when they’re looking to help their throats.
Whether he’s playing with us or actually losing it, I can’t really say. I don’t know him, nor do I know anyone who knows him. What I can say is that this show will definitely have implications regarding his public image, and he may want to reconsider what he’s doing for the sake of his career.
Marbury, for a long time, was considered one of the NBA’s best. Maybe not elite, as in top 5 or 10, but a top-tier player nonetheless and a big name in the league.
Marbury often averaged very respectable numbers, amongst the top scorers on his team, and always led the team in assists. His ball handling skills were superb, and he always filled the stat sheet. His biggest criticism was always the impact he’d have on a team’s chemistry.
Marbury has recently become more affiliated with his negative impact on the teams he plays for than he has with his talent. Rather than speaking of his great skills and stats, the media and fans prefer to focus on all of the games his teams have lost, assigning much of the responsibility to Marbury himself.
Basically Marbury started over as a Boston Celtic. He did not complain, and was a good teammate, who helped with good production. He was a main person for defensive assignments late in close games, and he had contributed in scoring and moving the ball. As a Celtic, he seemed to be at times too un-selfish, passing on easy shots. It is not easy for him, because he wanted to portray a new image, and revive his career.
Marbury’s latest antics are quickly leading people to once again associate him with the clownish reputation he built up for himself these past few seasons in New York. The perceived narcissism of his video blog is the catalyst.
He is taking on the challenge, so should you. I mean I know your no Iverson in any way, but you are better than the likes of Dahantay Jones who is getting a big contract, get to work a cut the nonsense basketball wise, because Stephon Marbury…you are not having a dream. (Unless I’m crazy!)
